In an unprecedented joint operation, the Andaman and Nicobar Police, along with the Indian Coast Guard, intercepted a Myanmarese vessel carrying an astounding 6,016 kg of methamphetamine. Valued at approximately ₹36,000 crore, this marks the largest maritime drug haul in India’s history, showcasing the exemplary collaboration between maritime and law enforcement agencies.

The operation was launched following an intelligence tip-off about a suspicious vessel navigating Indian waters. Equipped with advanced surveillance systems, the Indian Coast Guard identified and intercepted the vessel near the Andaman coast. Upon thorough inspection, the enormous consignment of methamphetamine, concealed in tightly sealed packages, was discovered.

Authorities confirmed that the seized drugs were part of an international smuggling network originating from Southeast Asia. The vessel’s crew, identified as Myanmarese nationals, was taken into custody for interrogation. Initial findings suggest the contraband was destined for distribution across multiple countries.

Commenting on the success, a senior official remarked, “This operation is a testament to the vigilance and commitment of our forces in safeguarding our maritime borders. It sends a strong message to drug syndicates operating in the region.”

The Indian Coast Guard and the Andaman Police have initiated further investigations to trace the network’s links and prevent future trafficking attempts. This milestone operation underscores India’s growing efforts to combat drug smuggling and maintain maritime security.
