Hyderabad: Christian communities across Hyderabad marked Good Friday with deep reverence, commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ through solemn rituals, prayers, and community gatherings.

At St. Mary’s Basilica, the day began with a Passion Play at 7 a.m., vividly portraying the suffering and crucifixion of Christ, followed by a mass at 6 p.m. dedicated to His passion. Other major churches in the city, including CSI Wesley Church (Clock Tower), St. Joseph’s Cathedral (Gunfoundry), and St. George’s Church (Abids Road), conducted day-long prayer sessions and reflections, drawing large congregations.

To accommodate the city’s linguistic diversity, the services were held in English, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. Devotees, many of whom fasted the entire day, were also offered cool water, buttermilk, and juices by volunteers stationed at various church premises.

Earlier in the day, many churches hosted the Way of the Cross, where youth groups performed Passion Plays, reenacting key moments from Jesus’ final hours. The events witnessed participation from people of all age groups, coming together in faith and reflection to honor the sacrifice of Christ
