⚖️ “RTI Misuse Creating Fear in Governance,” Says Delhi High Court

In a striking observation, the Delhi High Court recently warned that the misuse of the Right to Information (RTI) Act is causing a state of paralysis and fear among government officials.

The court was hearing a petition against a decision by the Central Information Commission (CIC), which had barred a petitioner from filing further RTIs. The individual had been persistently filing multiple applications after the alleged medical negligence death of his brother.

The High Court noted that while the RTI Act is a crucial tool for transparency and accountability, its repetitive and excessive use — especially in emotionally charged cases — could turn it into a weapon that hinders governance.

🗣️ Court’s Words:
“RTI is for information, not intimidation. If abused, it can lead to fear and administrative freeze.”

The case underscores the urgent need to balance citizens’ right to know with responsible use of the law, ensuring justice without overwhelming the system.
