Bhubaneswar has been put on high alert following a terror threat issued by Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. The threat, reportedly targeting the upcoming Pravasi Bharatiya Divas event in the city, has raised serious concerns among security agencies.
The Threat
Pannun, a self-proclaimed leader of the banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) group, released a video threatening to disrupt the event. Known for his inflammatory statements and separatist agenda, Pannun’s threats are being taken seriously by central and state intelligence agencies.
Security Measures
The Odisha Police, in coordination with central security agencies, has stepped up surveillance across Bhubaneswar. Key venues associated with Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, as well as public spaces, are being thoroughly monitored.
- Increased Deployment: Additional forces from the Odisha Police, CRPF, and other agencies have been deployed in and around the city.
- Intelligence Coordination: The Intelligence Bureau (IB) and National Investigation Agency (NIA) are closely tracking the activities of Khalistani operatives.
- Airport and Border Vigilance: Security has been tightened at the Biju Patnaik International Airport, and entry points to the state are under strict surveillance.
