FIR Filed Against Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap in Raipur Over Alleged Remarks on Brahmin Community

Raipur Police have registered an FIR against noted filmmaker and actor Anurag Kashyap, best known for Gangs of Wasseypur, for allegedly promoting enmity between different communities through his recent remarks about the Brahmin community on social media.

The case was lodged late Monday night at the City Kotwali police station, following a formal complaint by Pandit Neelkanth Tripathi, National Vice President and Chhattisgarh in-charge of the Rashtriya Brahman Mahasangh (Bharat). Authorities confirmed that further investigation is underway.

According to officials, Kashyap allegedly made a casteist comment online that was considered offensive by members of the Brahmin community and viewed as a potential threat to social harmony. Based on the complaint, police booked Kashyap under sections 196 (promoting enmity between different groups) and 302 (hurting religious sentiments with deliberate intent) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

In response to the controversy, Kashyap issued a public apology on Tuesday, admitting that he used abusive language in a moment of anger and crossed a line. He expressed regret for his statement and acknowledged the impact of his words.
