The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has apprehended Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Manjit Singh, who was stationed at Police Station City-2 in Kapurthala, on charges of bribery. The arrest took place following a formal complaint lodged by Gurjit Kaur, a local resident, who alleged that the ASI demanded a bribe of ₹5000 to provide copies of a complaint and a mutual agreement.

Officials from the Vigilance Bureau acted swiftly on the complaint, conducting a sting operation to catch the officer red-handed. “Corruption within law enforcement undermines public trust and will not be tolerated,” a spokesperson for the Bureau stated.

A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and investigations are ongoing to determine whether the ASI was involved in other similar incidents. The Vigilance Bureau has urged citizens to come forward and report any such cases to help eliminate corruption from the system.

The incident has sparked discussions in the local community about the need for greater accountability among public officials. The Punjab government has recently intensified efforts to address corruption, with multiple such arrests reported in the past year.

This case serves as a reminder for law enforcement agencies to uphold integrity and for citizens to remain vigilant against unethical practices.
