The Punjab government has dismissed a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) for allegedly facilitating an interview of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi while he was in police custody. The decision follows an investigation by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) that concluded the officer, Gursher Singh Sandhu, had indeed provided assistance for the interview to be conducted.
The incident, which occurred in 2023, sparked widespread criticism and raised serious concerns about the integrity of the police force. The dismissal order, issued by the state’s Home Affairs department, cited a breach of protocol and a serious lapse in security.
