Mumbai: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Central Railways is operating a Vande Bharat Express with an all-women crew for the first time. The CSMT-Shirdi Vande Bharat Express train has an all-women crew today, including the loco pilot, assistant loco pilot, train manager, TCs and train hostesses.
Central Railway Passenger Train Manager, Shweta Ghone says, “This is a proud moment for us… If a woman can perform a hard task like giving birth, then what can’t she do? Society needs to understand this. When a woman becomes capable, she can make her entire family capable. If every woman becomes capable, then how can our country not progress?…”
Historic First: Vande Bharat Express Operated by an All-Women Crew
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Indian Railways marked a significant milestone as the CSMT-Shirdi Vande Bharat Express was operated entirely by an all-women crew, including the loco pilot, assistant loco pilot, train manager, ticket examiners, and train hostesses.
Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railways, Swapnil Nila, highlighted Indian Railways’ continued efforts to make travel easier and more inclusive for women. He also stated that the initiative would be extended to other Vande Bharat trains in the future. Additionally, a Central Railways goods train was also operated exclusively by women, further showcasing their growing role in the railway sector.
Celebrating this achievement, Central Railways took to social media, calling it a “proud and historic moment”, recognizing the strength, dedication, and leadership of women in Indian Railways.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to ‘Nari Shakti’, acknowledging the contributions of women across various fields. In a social media post, he announced that his platforms would be taken over by women achievers for the day, highlighting their inspiring journeys.
