Hyderabad: The number of cancer cases in Telangana has surged by 10% over the past five years, while Andhra Pradesh has witnessed a 9% increase, according to the latest data released by the Central government. The alarming rise in cases has raised concerns among health officials and policymakers, emphasizing the need for enhanced cancer care facilities and preventive measures in both states.
To address the growing burden of cancer, the Union Health Ministry has taken significant steps, including the approval of 19 State Cancer Institutes across the country. These institutes aim to provide advanced medical treatment and diagnostic services, ensuring that cancer patients receive timely and effective care.
Health experts have attributed the rise in cancer cases to various factors, including lifestyle changes, increased consumption of processed foods, environmental pollution, and genetic predisposition. Smoking, alcohol consumption, and lack of regular screenings have also contributed to the rise in cancer incidence.
In Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, efforts are being made to strengthen cancer care infrastructure. Existing hospitals are being upgraded with modern equipment, and awareness campaigns are being conducted to educate people on early detection and preventive measures. The government is also focusing on expanding palliative care services to support patients undergoing treatment.
With the rising trend in cancer cases, medical professionals emphasize the importance of regular health checkups, early diagnosis, and leading a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of developing cancer. The government’s initiatives, along with community participation, will play a crucial role in tackling the increasing prevalence of cancer in the region.
