Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Announces Stricter Pollution Control Measures

In a significant move to combat air pollution, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday introduced a series of stricter pollution control measures. Among the key initiatives is a new policy for issuing Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates to vehicles from other states, aimed at ensuring compliance with Delhi’s environmental regulations.

Gupta also announced an ambitious expansion of the city’s electric vehicle (EV) charging network, revealing that by 2026, Delhi will have 48,000 charging points18,000 government-operated and 30,000 semi-private—to encourage the adoption of cleaner transportation.

To further enhance pollution tracking and enforcement, the government will establish six new air quality monitoring centres across the city. Additionally, an eco-park dedicated to processing electronic waste will be set up to tackle pollution caused by improper disposal of e-waste.

“These initiatives will strengthen Delhi’s fight against pollution by ensuring stricter enforcement and improved infrastructure,” Gupta stated while discussing the CAG report.

A New Era in Delhi’s Governance

The announcements were made on the final day of the first Budget Session of Delhi’s eighth Legislative Assembly. The BJP, which secured a landslide victory with 48 out of 70 seats in February’s elections, ended AAP’s decade-long rule and returned to power in the capital after 27 years.

With air pollution continuing to be one of Delhi’s biggest challenges, these measures are expected to fill regulatory gaps, improve oversight, and create a cleaner, healthier environment for residents.
