Guwahati, April 2025 — The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has officially cancelled the remaining Class 11 examinations due to the upcoming Panchayat elections in the state.

The decision comes in response to logistical challenges and administrative responsibilities tied to the election process, which is scheduled to be held across various districts in the coming weeks. Several educational institutions are being designated as polling centers, and many teachers and staff members are being assigned election duties.

In an official statement, AHSEC clarified that students will be evaluated based on their performance in internal assessments and earlier completed examinations. Schools have been instructed to submit assessment reports to the council by a specified deadline.

Education officials assured students and parents that the decision was taken with careful consideration and is aimed at avoiding disruptions or undue pressure during a period of large-scale civic engagement.

The move has received mixed reactions from the public. While some welcomed the cancellation as a practical response to overlapping responsibilities, others expressed concern over academic continuity and fairness in evaluation.

This is not the first time examinations have been rescheduled or cancelled due to non-academic events in the state. However, authorities emphasized that students’ academic progress and well-being remain a top priority.
