New Delhi:
The Indian Railways has announced a big change in its reservation system. Starting 2025, passengers will be able to book train tickets only up to 60 days in advance, instead of the earlier 120 days.

This means that if you want to travel by train, you can now book your ticket only two months before the journey date, not four months as before.

Why this change?

The railway authorities say this move is aimed at improving seat management and reducing misuse of advance bookings. It also helps railways handle last-minute changes in train schedules and adjust to seasonal passenger traffic better.

What about special trains and tatkal?

  • Special trains and Tatkal tickets will not be affected by this change.

  • Their booking rules will remain the same as before.

From when does this apply?

  • This new rule will be effective from 2025

  • Tickets booked before that date under the 120-day rule will remain valid.

Key Points to Remember:

  • Old rule: Tickets could be booked 120 days (4 months) in advance

  • New rule: Tickets can now be booked only 60 days (2 months) in advance

  • Applies to all regular trains across India

  • Takes effect from 2025
