Bengaluru:
Former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash was found dead under suspicious circumstances at his residence in Bengaluru’s HSR Layout on Sunday afternoon, police officials confirmed.
The 68-year-old retired top cop was discovered lying in a pool of blood on the ground floor of his three-storey home. The body bore multiple injuries, suggesting a violent assault. The initial alert to the police was made by his wife, Pallavi, who reported the incident herself. However, her behavior following the call raised concerns — police sources revealed she refused to open the door for officers upon their arrival.
Wife Under Investigation
Authorities have confirmed that the death is a case of homicide. While the investigation is ongoing and the identity of the assailant has yet to be formally established, Pallavi, the wife, is currently the prime suspect. Both she and their daughter were reportedly present in the living room at the time of the incident.
According to preliminary findings, there may have been ongoing domestic tensions related to property matters. Sources close to the investigation suggest that Om Prakash had planned to transfer his assets to his son, a decision that allegedly led to conflict within the family.
Police Action and Postmortem
A team of senior police officials quickly arrived at the scene upon receiving the distress call. The body has since been transported to St. John’s Hospital for a postmortem examination. The results are expected to provide further clarity on the nature and timing of the death. The body will be handed over to the family on Monday morning following the autopsy.
Police have begun interrogating Pallavi as part of the formal investigation. Further questioning and forensic examination are underway to determine the sequence of events and gather conclusive evidence.
Ongoing Investigation
The sudden and violent demise of a former top-ranking police official has sent shockwaves through the law enforcement and administrative community. The Bangalore police are treating this case with high priority, and more details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
