To uplift pineapple farmers, the Tripura government plans to establish a fruit-processing facility in Nalkata (Dhalai district) under a PPP model. Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath announced the initiative during the Pineapple Festival, noting Tripura has exported over 73 metric tonnes of pineapples to markets in Dubai, Oman, and Qatar in recent years. The move also ties into efforts to obtain GI tags for local produce like Sidol Shutki and Sabri bananas. With 1.46 lakh acres under fruit cultivation and nearly 29,000 acres for pineapple alone, officials believe this facility will add value, stabilize farmers’ incomes, and expand export potential.
