In a deeply disturbing incident, the family of a decorated Kargil War veteran in Pune faced harassment and humiliation when local police and an unruly mob barged into their home, demanding proof of Indian citizenship  without prior notice or cause.

Despite immediately providing valid identity documents, the veteran’s family was reportedly dismissed, mocked, and briefly detained. Eyewitnesses claim that the behavior of authorities and the mob left women and children in the household visibly shaken and emotionally traumatized.

The family, already having sacrificed for the nation, expressed disbelief and pain over the treatment meted out to them. “We served the country, and today we are questioned like outsiders in our own land,” a family member stated.

Human rights groups have condemned the incident, calling it a clear violation of constitutional dignity, right to equality, and protection against arbitrary intrusion. They have urged the state government and Pune police to issue an immediate apology and initiate accountability measures.

This incident serves as a stark reminder that even the most respected citizens are not immune to rising hostility, suspicion, and administrative overreach a threat to the very values they once fought to protect.
