Police operations targeting drug trafficking networks in Manipur have resulted in several successful busts, which have disrupted the supply chains of illegal drugs like heroin, methamphetamine (known locally as “crystal meth”), and opium. These substances are trafficked through the porous Indo-Myanmar border and find their way into local markets as well as larger urban areas.
In one of the most significant busts in recent months, police seized large quantities of heroin and methamphetamine hidden in secret compartments of vehicles and trucks. The operation, which involved covert surveillance and intelligence sharing with other agencies, led to the arrest of several key figures involved in the narcotics trade. This operation was a part of the larger anti-narcotics campaign led by the Manipur Police in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and other enforcement bodies.
Another breakthrough came when police raided a drug manufacturing lab in a remote area of the state. The lab was used for processing raw opium into heroin, which was then packaged and sent across state lines. In this operation, police discovered large amounts of raw opium and equipment used for drug production. The bust led to the arrest of several individuals linked to the syndicate, and it exposed the well-organized network behind the local drug trade.
The police are also focusing on drug abuse prevention and rehabilitation programs to address the consequences of drug addiction within the community. They are working alongside health authorities to offer counseling, rehabilitation, and support for those struggling with substance abuse.
Despite these significant victories, the battle against the drug trade remains a daunting task.
