Kolkata/Imphal: Mild tremors were experienced in Kolkata and Imphal on Friday following a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Bangkok, Thailand, and Myanmar. The earthquake’s epicenter was located in central Myanmar, approximately 50 km east of Monywa.
In Kolkata and its adjoining areas, residents reported feeling tremors, though no damage to property or casualties have been reported so far, according to preliminary assessments.
In Imphal, Manipur, tremors triggered panic, especially in the Thangal Bazar area, which houses several old multi-storey buildings. However, police confirmed that no structural damage has been reported in the region.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, urging residents to remain cautious and follow safety protocols in case of aftershocks.
