In a significant step towards water conservation, Chandigarh has announced plans to install rainwater harvesting structures in all government buildings, schools, and anganwadi centres across the city. This initiative is part of the central government’s ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain 2025’ campaign, which aims to enhance groundwater recharge and promote sustainable water management practices.
The project is expected to be completed by November 2025, ensuring that rainwater is efficiently collected and used to replenish groundwater levels. By implementing this large-scale initiative, Chandigarh seeks to address water scarcity concerns and encourage eco-friendly infrastructure development.
Authorities have emphasized that proper execution of rainwater harvesting systems will help reduce water wastage, particularly during the monsoon season.
