The Delhi High Court has ruled that it is the passenger’s own responsibility to take care of their luggage while traveling by train. In a recent judgment, the court clarified that the Railways cannot be held accountable for theft or loss of passengers’ belongings during the journey.

The decision came after a passenger filed a complaint against the Indian Railways, claiming compensation for stolen luggage. However, the court stated that unless the luggage is officially booked and handed over to the Railways for safekeeping, the responsibility lies solely with the passenger.

The court emphasized the importance of travelers remaining alert and taking precautions to prevent theft. The message is clear —
“Your Luggage, Your Responsibility.”

This ruling reinforces the idea that passengers should not assume Railways will provide security for personal items unless specific arrangements are made.
