The city is gearing up for an intense heatwave as the mercury soared to a scorching 42.7°C at the Ridge area, marking one of the highest temperatures of the season so far. The weather department has issued warnings, urging residents to take necessary precautions as the heatwave spell is expected to continue in the coming days.

According to officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the temperature is significantly above normal for this time of year. “Dry northwesterly winds and clear skies are contributing to the rising heat levels. We expect this heatwave to persist for at least the next two to three days,” an IMD spokesperson said.

Health experts have advised the public to avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and wear light, breathable clothing. Vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with existing health conditions have been asked to remain indoors and take extra care.

Authorities are also ramping up preparedness by ensuring uninterrupted power and water supply across the city, especially in densely populated and heat-sensitive zones.

With summer at its peak, residents are bracing for what could be one of the harshest spells of the season. The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and will issue updates as necessary.
