Lakshadweep is set to become India’s hub for “Blue Economy” following the 2026 Sustainable Development Goals framework rollout. The administration has unveiled a strategic roadmap focusing on tuna value chains and seaweed farming.
With an untapped potential of nearly 100,000 tonnes of fish, the government is incentivizing startups for marine cage farming. These technology-led initiatives are designed to empower local youth and women, ensuring that the pristine marine biodiversity is preserved while creating a self-reliant economic engine for the islanders through sustainable mariculture.
