In a major move to decongest the “Queen of Hills,” the Himachal government has officially notified much steeper penalties for traffic violations in Shimla starting today. Driving on restricted roads without a valid pass now carries a hefty fine of ₹10,000, while entering prohibited zones will cost you ₹5,000. Beyond the wallet-denting fines, the new law introduces a jail provision of 10 to 15 days for serious offenders. These measures aim to prioritize pedestrian safety and manage the heavy tourist influx during the peak summer season.
