Patna: In a striking display of austerity, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary walked 500 meters from his official residence to the state secretariat on Friday.
The move directly responds to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s global appeal to curtail fuel consumption amidst the ongoing West Asia crisis. Following his lead, Panchayati Raj Minister Deepak Prakash walked nearly a kilometer, urging government employees to adopt public transport, e-vehicles, or bicycles every Friday.
The state is now evaluating a mandatory weekly “no vehicle day” alongside virtual meetings to curb fuel spending.
