Himachal Power Shock: Bills Soar Due to Fuel Charge

Electricity consumers across Himachal Pradesh are experiencing a major financial shock as their monthly power bills see an unexpected and steep spike. Driven by the newly imposed Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment (FPPCA) surcharge, households are now being charged an additional ₹50 to ₹200. The hike stems from the state’s electricity board’s urgent need to purchase expensive power from external sources to meet growing demand, following limits on subsidized state supply.

This extra burden, alongside newly added milk and environment cesses, has triggered widespread frustration among residents already battling inflation.
