A horrific accident struck Kolkata’s Taratala area on Wednesday afternoon when a three-story, under-construction cold storage warehouse suddenly collapsed. The disaster claimed at least five lives and left several other workers injured or trapped beneath heavy rubble. In response, a massive multi-agency rescue operation was swiftly mobilized.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), state emergency teams, Kolkata Police, and four columns of the Indian Army’s Eastern Command worked tirelessly through concrete and twisted iron beams. The ill-fated project was being constructed by Behera Brothers on land leased from the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port.
