In a significant crackdown on narcotics smuggling, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has intercepted a massive consignment of over 55,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup at the Agartala Railway Station.
Valued at approximately Rs 6.54 crore, the illicit cargo was discovered hidden within a railway parcel van. Authorities have taken one individual into custody, and investigations are intensifying to dismantle the broader supply network. Preliminary reports suggest a potential cross-border smuggling link to Bangladesh, highlighting the ongoing challenges in securing the region against organized drug trafficking and ensuring public safety in the state.
