After completing his schooling, he pursued B.A. (Honours) in Economics from Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi, where he graduated with First Division. He then earned an M.A. in Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, and later completed a Ph.D. in Economics, further strengthening his expertise in economic policy and public administration.
Inspired by the opportunity to shape public policy and improve the lives of citizens, Awanish Kumar chose to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services Examination instead of pursuing a conventional academic or corporate career. His disciplined preparation, backed by a solid foundation in economics and current affairs, helped him succeed in one of India’s most competitive examinations.
He joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) as a Direct Recruit in the 2014 Batch and was allotted the prestigious AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram-Union Territories) Cadre.
