In a significant linguistic push, the Puducherry government, led by Chief Minister N Rangasamy, has officially mandated that all shops and commercial establishments must prominently display their names in Tamil. The recent directive comes in the wake of growing demands for the promotion of the regional language. In addition to commercial signboards, all official government invitations and event communications will also prioritize Tamil.

This cultural move aims to preserve the local heritage and ensure that native language speakers do not face communication barriers while conducting business across the union territory. Authorities will soon conduct compliance checks across all regional markets.
