he historic Shri Ambabai (Mahalaxmi) Temple in Kolhapur is set for a massive transformation following the launch of a ₹1,445-crore redevelopment project by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This ambitious initiative aims to preserve the temple’s ancient Hemadpanthi architecture while upgrading pilgrim amenities to world-class standards.
The project includes the restoration of 41 peripheral shrines, the development of a dedicated circumambulation path, and the construction of modern facilities like a large darshan hall, amphitheatre, and Vedic school. By balancing heritage conservation with infrastructure growth, the initiative seeks to bolster Kolhapur’s status as a premier religious tourism hub.
