In a historic policy shift, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has unveiled official physician guidance for its new Medicare GLP-1 Bridge Program. Breaking away from a long-standing Part D ban on weight-loss drug coverage, this temporary initiative expands access to weight management medications starting July 1, 2026.

To qualify for the benefit, beneficiaries must have a body mass index (BMI) of 27 or higher alongside specific underlying health conditions, including prediabetes, a history of stroke, or prior heart attacks, drastically changing healthcare access for millions of seniors.
