Thousands of devoted Varkaris have embarked on the sacred annual Palkhi procession of Saint Nivruti Maharaj, commencing their arduous journey from Trimbakeshwar towards Pandharpur. Braving severe, relentless monsoon rainfall, the unwavering spirit of the pilgrims remains unbroken as they walk hundreds of kilometers.
This powerful display of faith sees devotees, many barefoot and carrying traditional instruments like the veena and taal, singing hymns in praise of Lord Vitthal. The flower-laden palanquin of the Saint, shielded by a traditional ornate umbrella, leads this sea of humanity through the rain-soaked, misty hills of the Western Ghats, continuing a centuries-old tradition of spiritual endurance.
