Born and raised in the picturesque yet challenging mountain terrain of Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh, Tenzin Yangki comes from a phenomenal lineage deeply tied to public administration and nation-building. Her late father, Thupten Tempa, was an IRS officer who transitioned into an IAS officer and later served as a state minister. Her mother, Jigmi Choden, is a retired state government Secretary and a 1992-batch APCS officer. Furthermore, her grandfather, Nyepa Khow, played a historic role as a political assistant instrumental in integrating the Tawang region into mainstream India. Growing up in such an environment instilled in her a profound sense of duty. Her academic journey spans globally recognized institutions—including a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from the University of Warwick, UK, followed by an M.A. and M.Phil. in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi. Before clearing the UPSC Civil Services Examination, she served briefly as an Assistant Professor of Political Science and worked as a Circle Officer in the Siang district starting in 2017 after cracking the state civil service exams. Driven by a desire to push boundaries and build safer communities, she set her sights on the UPSC, securing All India Rank (AIR) 545.
