The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has officially banned the use of plastic packaging, including PVC, synthetic laminates, aluminum foil, and metallized layers, for pan masala products nationwide. Under the newly notified Food Safety and Standards (Packaging) Amendment Regulations, manufacturers are now strictly mandated to transition to eco-friendly, plastic-free alternatives such as paper, paperboard, cellulose, tin, or glass containers. This regulatory overhaul aligns with the Plastic Waste Management Rules to curb environmental pollution caused by non-recyclable single-use sachets, forcing a major packaging shift across the high-volume FMCG sector.
