Indian Cinema Mourns the Loss of a Legendary Performer
GOA, OCTOBER 8, 2026: Veteran Indian actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 75 following a cardiac arrest at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa.
According to reports, Patekar was found unconscious at his residence and was rushed to Manipal Hospital. Doctors reportedly attempted to revive him for around 45 minutes, but he could not be saved. He was declared dead at approximately 5:20 AM. His son, Malhar Patekar, confirmed the news.
Nana Patekar, whose real name was Vishwanath Patekar, had a career spanning nearly five decades in Hindi and Marathi cinema. He was widely admired for his powerful performances, distinctive dialogue delivery and intense screen presence.
He delivered memorable performances in films including Parinda, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Khamoshi: The Musical, Ab Tak Chhappan, Rajneeti, Welcome and Natsamrat. He was also a director and writer and received several major honours, including the Padma Shri and National Film Awards.
His sudden demise has sent shockwaves across the Indian film industry, with actors, political leaders and fans expressing grief and paying tribute to the legendary performer.
The Maharashtra government has announced that Nana Patekar will be accorded a state funeral in recognition of his contribution to Indian theatre and cinema.
