The ₹91,000 crore Great Nicobar Island Development Project (GNIDP) represents a monumental shift in India’s maritime infrastructure.
By establishing an International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT) at Galathea Bay, the project aims to position the islands as a global trade hub capable of competing with major regional ports. Integrated with a greenfield international airport, a self-sustaining township, and a robust gas/solar power plant, the development is designed to significantly bolster India’s national security and defense footprint near the vital Strait of Malacca, marking a transformative era for the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago.
