The Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration has officially launched the long-awaited rehabilitation and resettlement census on Great Nicobar Island. This crucial step marks the physical beginning of India’s ambitious “Great Nicobar” mega-infrastructure project, designed to create a massive transshipment hub and integrated ecosystem.
The census is the key to managing the human and environmental impacts of the development, which is set to scale up through 2050, aiming to transform the remote island into a global maritime economic powerhouse.
