The Ministry of Defence has greenlit a monumental ₹13,000 crore dual-use Greenfield International Airport and Naval Air Station in Great Nicobar. Managed by the Indian Navy, this state-of-the-art facility will handle both commercial airlines and advanced fighter jets.
By replacing the outdated, smaller airstrip at Campbell Bay, this massive strategic upgrade is set to drastically accelerate rapid military deployment and enhance long-range maritime surveillance. It cements India’s defense posture in the region, establishing a highly fortified aerospace hub capable of monitoring vital global shipping lines and addressing emerging security challenges seamlessly.
