The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed that the Southwest Monsoon officially advanced into the Andaman Sea and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands today, arriving four days ahead of its typical May 20 schedule.
Driven by a supportive low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal, the early arrival has triggered moderate to heavy rainfall across the archipelago.
Maritime authorities have issued safety advisories, and the Directorate of Shipping Services is closely monitoring inter-island ferry routes to Swaraj Dweep and Shaheed Dweep due to rising waves and gusty winds.
