In a major boost to water security, Ladakh’s high-altitude Changthang region received its vital 2.10 km Mahey Tokpo-Raldho irrigation canal.
Positioned at an altitude of over 14,000 feet, the newly completed project draws essential water from Yaya Lake to irrigate nearly 100 acres of agricultural land. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena inaugurated the canal, which was fast-tracked to overcome past administrative delays.
Alongside the launch, a mass plantation drive of 15,000 trees was initiated with locals to combat soil erosion and promote ecological sustainability in the harsh terrain.
