The Puducherry Police Department has announced a significant escalation in penalties aimed at completely curbing underage driving. Effective immediately, vehicle owners or parents who permit minors to operate vehicles face severe consequences, including hefty fines of up to ₹25,000 and potential imprisonment for up to three years.
In a further move, the vehicle’s registration will be cancelled for 12 months. Crucially, any minor caught driving will be barred from applying for a driving license until they reach the age of 25.
